Last Extension

Jurmo, Finland, 2021

A fog-covered moraine shoreline at the edge of the Baltic Sea.

This photograph was created on a warm, nearly windless autumn day on the southern shores of Jurmo. Although the conditions were calm, a dense and uncanny fog enveloped the entire island, softening distances and erasing the horizon almost completely.

Jurmo is known for its distinctive moraine beaches, shaped by the Salpausselkä formation — the island marking the last visible extension of this ancient geological ridge. Rounded stones, sparse grasses, and the gently fading shoreline formed a quiet, elemental composition where land and sea seemed to merge into one.

Last Extension explores geology, isolation, and impermanence. It captures a moment where the landscape feels suspended between presence and disappearance — a place defined not by what is seen, but by what slowly vanishes into fog.
