A solitary bird drifting across a dark pond under the midsummer sun.

This photograph was created on an exceptionally warm early summer day while walking through Isokuru toward Pyhänkasteenlampi in northern Lapland. In the stillness of the pond, a single bird moved quietly across the water.

Debris on the surface and the bird’s soft down caught the intense midday light, scattering reflections across the dark water. The scene felt suspended between scales — small and intimate, yet vast in its atmosphere. The reflections transformed the surface into something resembling a night sky, where the bird appeared to float among distant stars.

A Bird Among the Stars explores solitude, scale, and perception. It captures a fleeting moment where light turns the ordinary into something quietly otherworldly.
